I have a user I'm trying to set up on Outlook 365 (2016 client) on a user's new PC that is running Windows 10. When setting up the account entering User name, Email address, password, the Add Account dialog box indicates that it establishes network connection, but seems to hang on the step 'Seaching for <User's email address> settings'. It never gets to Logging on to mail server.

I've tried:

Can't set up user in Office 365 Outlook 2016. I have a user I'm trying to set up on Outlook 365 (2016 client) on a user's new PC that is running Windows 10. • deleting and then recreating the user profile
  • turning off BitDefender Endpoint Security

and it still doesn't get past the the Searching for settings line.

I ran the Outlook Connectivity Test and that was successful, I've also had the user log into the Outlook Web client and that seems to work fine, so I'm assuming it's not a password issue.

I did find out that the user's old PC which uses Outlook 2010 doesn't seem to successfully connect either -- it displays 'trying to connect' on the status bar.

Anyone know what could cause these symptoms and how I can get the user successfully setup?

Thanks in advance.

FYI: As a student/employee, you can get your computer fixed/cleaned FOR FREE at OIT! Also, you get Lynda.com, Microsoft Office, and tons of other software!

With it being new student welcome day and all, I just wanted to remind everyone that OIT offers comprehensive computer support FOR FREE for all university affiliates! Just bring your computer by the Technology Learning Center, or the Norlin library, and we'll do our best to get you up and running.

Also, copy-pasted from my last post:

OIT provides free. software downloads and licensing for students, staff, and faculty. You can see what is applicable to you by visiting the OIT Site License page here. This will also give you instructions for downloading and installing all applicable software. If you run into any problems, stop by the TLC or Norlin Walk-in locations, and we'd be happy to give you some help! You can also get completely free in-person technical support and repair here for your personal devices. It's a HUGE value.

OIT also provides extremely useful online learning through lynda.com for all CU-Boulder faculty, staff and students. (Thanks /u/CleverDuck)

Furthermore, some departments purchase software licenses for their department only. I know of two examples on campus, but I'm sure there are more. If you know of any, post them down in the comments below and I'll update this post.

  • The computer science department provides 'all the software available under the Microsoft Dreamspark license. This software is available to any student who is currently enrolled in a computer science course (this is not exclusive to CS majors but is open too all students currently enrolled in CS courses, all department faculty, and all department staff members. The license does NOT extend to CS Majors who are not currently enrolled in courses.'

  • The ITLL provides Microsoft Imagine, which is essentially the same thing, for all ITLL users. All CU-Boulder engineering students, staff and faculty may obtain access to the ITL facility and its computer network by attending a 30-minute orientation.

  • University employees can get Windows 10 for free on personal devices. See the OIT Site Licensing page above. (Thanks /u/Kaptain_Obviou5)
