Socom Us Navy Seals Download Game For Lg Phone

SOCOM, already a well-proven franchise on the PlayStation 2 (the original game sold over 2.5 million units), is en route to mobile. JAMDAT enlisted the support of developer Ironmonkey Studios to take on this project, completed under the blessing of Sony Computer Entertainment America. The timing of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs really couldn't be more perfect, as Sony has the third PS2 SOCOM extending its tour of duty next month and the first PSP edition of the game, Fireteam Bravo, coming in November.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs plays out as a prequel to the first SOCOM. You lead a two man recon team on a mission to gather intelligence in Morocco. What you discern here ultimately feeds into the PS2 series of games. It's not essential to be familiar with SOCOM on PS2 to enjoy SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALsm but the continuity is certainly a nice touch.

Actually, JAMDAT's SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is all about 'nice touches.' Before getting into the game play details, I have to make mention of the visuals -- they're just too stellar to sit on. The maps are expertly detailed with such attention to detail on handsets like the LG VX8100. As the two soldiers, Wraith and Bronco, walk down the back alleys of Morocco, birds scatter beneath their feet. Trees sway in the same breeze that blows clotheslines around. Dripping water from drain pipes causes ripples in buckets. Damn.

The game is played not unlike other strategy titles in a similar oeuvre. You don't not necessarily control the direct actions of Wraith and Bronco -- instead, you use an extremely smooth-scrolling cursor to direct the men to their next destination. When it's time to shoot, move the cursor over an enemy until it turns red and press the action key. The men will open fire, but while doing so, you can nudge the cursor toward the enemy's skull to arrange a headshot. The cursor is also used to interact with objects, like vehicles and doors.

Since you technically are working with Wraith, Bronco's commands are accessed via a soft key. Bronco can help lay down fire, throw grenades, and open up doors -- among other commands. These commands, on a higher end handset, are often accompanied by voice clips taken from a special recording session JAMDAT initiated. It sounds authentic and it does wonders for the atmosphere.

Navy Seal Video Games

JAMDAT's decree for SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs was that gamers could play it with only one hand. And in our play test, this was true. I worked through the first three missions without lifting my thumb. I think that will really help get the more casual crowd interested in the game. But there are more advanced ways to get through levels. For example, Wraith has a sniper ability that turns the game into something not unlike Silent Scope.

Stealth also plays a big part in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs -- if you want it to. Wraith is a silent killer, and if properly directed into shadows (without crossing an enemy's line-of-sight), he can reach out and slice a terrorist with his knife. You actually see not only the blade, but the blood spray, too. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs veers a little into the T-rated realm with this -- but I can appreciate having a mobile game steered toward an older demographic.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs is headed to handsets next month. When we get the go-ahead with a final build, I'll return with a full review.
